Hi, I’m Matilda.
It all began last summer when I got my yearly physical before my volleyball season, and my doctor urged me to get a heart check. She explained that there had been a rapid increase in sudden cardiac arrests among students and there was no explanation.
I suddenly remembered about the boy in my local community who had passed away only weeks earlier while on a camp hiking trip in Alaska due to a previously unknown heart condition. Similarly, there was a well-known case when Lebron James’s son also experienced unknown cardiac arrest. While he did not die, there have been countless cases across the nation of unexplained cardiac arrest.
In fact, 1 young athlete dies every 3 days from sudden cardiac arrest. This sparked my passion for understanding how communities can prevent student deaths from sudden cardiac arrest.
That’s why I developed “West Bloomfield Has Heart” - a community initiative to drive awareness, preparedness and prevention of this silent killer.
